Start the system |
Click Help in a Cadence application.
In a UNIX shell window, type install_dir /tools/bin/openbook &
On NT, choose Start - Programs - OpenBook - OpenBook Main Menu

Click Help in a Cadence application. To see the Library window, click Library.
In a UNIX shell window, type install_dir /tools/bin/cdsdoc &
On NT, choose Start - Programs - Cadence. Select your product, then choose Cadence Documentation.
On NT, open the C:\cds\tools\bin folder. Doubleclick cdsdoc .

Open a document |
Find the title in the OpenBook Main Menu. Click on it. |
Find the title in the Library window. Doubleclick on it. |
See an alphabetical list of documents |
Click Go - Product List. |
In the Library window, select Docs By Product (the default). |
Display a document's table of contents |
Click Go - Contents. |
Click Contents. |
Display a document's index |
Click Go - Index. |
Click Contents and scroll to the Index. [In cdsdoc 2.0: click Index.] |
Go to the next or previous chapter in a book |

Click Next or Previous. |
Zoom in or out on a page |
Choose Window - Zoom In or Zoom Out. |
Use your browser's Preferences command to set your preferred font size. Click View/Print PDF to view the document in Acrobat reader and enlarge the entire page and graphics. |
Add a Bookmark to a book |
Choose Edit - Add Bookmarks.
Note:
Bookmarks can only be viewed if you have already opened that chapter. You can't "bookmark" something to let you jump to it later from any other OpenBook file.

Use your browser's Add Bookmarks command.
Note:
If you Exit the system, you must restart it before your Bookmarks work again.

List books from another Cadence hierarchy. |
Start OpenBook at least once from each hierarchy, using the "Start the system" steps. Then: Choose Window - Set Preferences. Choose a Directory and click Apply. |
Start cdsdoc at least once from each hierarchy, using the "Start the system" steps. Then: Choose a directory from the Active Document Hierarchy pulldown. |
Copy and paste text |
Press Control and click text with the left mouse button to select text. Then use your window manager's Copy and Paste keys/commands to copy and paste selected text. |
Click and drag the left mouse button to select text. Then use your window manager's Copy and Paste keys/commands to copy and paste selected text. |
Search all books |
Choose Search - All. Type the words to search. |
Choose Search - All in the Library window, or click Search in a book. Type the words to search. |
Search only some books |
In the Search form, click Limit Search. Under Collections, click to toggle collection titles on (+) or off (blank). Click OK, then click Search. |
In the Search form, click on one or more Families, Products, and/or Books to limit the books searched. |
Search one book |
In the Search form, click Limit Search. Under Groups, click No Groups. In the scroll list, find the document title and click on it. Click OK, then click Search. |
In the Search form, click on the Product for that book, then click the Book title. |
Re-use the last query |
Click History to display previous queries, then click on a listed query. |
Click Back or Search to return to the Search page and your last query. |
Print all of a book |
Choose File - Print Book. Set All Files in Book on. |
Click View/Print PDF to view the document in Acrobat Reader, then choose File - Print. |
Print part of a book |
Choose File - Print Book, and select the chapters to print. (Prints only full chapters)
Choose File - Print and select pages to print part of a single chapter.

In Acrobat Reader, view the page numbers of the sections you want in the Table of Contents. Choose File - Print and enter any page range. |
Add documents to the library |
Add files to install_dir/local/doc. You must set them up as specified in the Help about the system.

You can't add documents to the Search index.

Get help about the system |
Click Help in any OpenBook window. |
Click Help in any document or in the Library window. |
Send comments about a book or the system |
Choose Comments - Send Feedback. |

Exit and stop the background process used to run Search |
Choose File - Exit OpenBook |
Click Exit. |
