John,
The good news: Our Synopsys DC 98.02 has been successfully installed and is
running. Thanks to the people at Sun and Synopsys who provided assistance
to make this happen.
The not so good news: There were several things that we were told to do, so
we're not exactly sure what the real solution was. We got a new motherboard
and disk drive to address the video and disk I/O issues, and we reinstalled
the OS and set up new disk partitions based on the input from Sun. We also
increased the size of the file system for Synopsys, but that was a shot in
the dark since the Synopsys install documentation doesn't state any minimum
requirements. There are also some items in the install instructions that
are very sketchy or just plain wrong, which continues to cause confusion.
The bad news: While we finally got good assistance, there were occassions
where we felt that the support people at Sun were more interested in closing
the service order than in knowing whether our problem was actually solved.
This echoes a thread that has been running the last few weeks.
Anyway, we're off and running, now the REAL work begins.
