Hi John,
Please keep me anonymous.
I used to work in Synopsys. I have personally worked with the engineer who
wrote these Avanti Scheme scripts. He used to be a very good AC in Avanti
and he came to Synopsys with experience in Apollo and Jupiter tools. He is
the one who wrote the Scheme scripts for the interface between PhysOpt and
Avanti tools.
I've used this script for library preparation, and file transfer between the
two tools when I still worked in Synopsys. Lately, Synopsys had three new
utilities: "milkyway2plib", "adb2pdef" and "pdef2adb" in version 2000.11
release to do the Avanti/PhysOpt interface. I had a lot of problems using
them in our flow. First, their debugging capability is bad. Secondly, they
are VERY sensitive to the ownership of the files. For example, if the
library was installed by the cadmgr, as a user I can't run "milkyway2plib"
at all. I have to log in as cadmgr to execute the it. And, so far, I
haven't have much success with "adb2pdef" and "pdef2adb".
I am forced to used the old script now for my project. I wonder how many
people have success using these 3 new Avanti/PhysOpt utilities in 2000.11?
