Hi, John,

I wanted to thank you for putting the record straight so openly in ESNUG and
Deepchip. There is a lot of marketing dollars spent by "the big boys" to
blow the start ups out of the water. These new contenders should be allowed
to flourish or die on the strength of their technology alone. I feel ESNUG
is the ideal forum to allow the designers and managers to openly express
their opinions. If we look back over the last few years there has been a
huge market shift away from the old ECO/IPO flows. This technology is not
rocket science, it should have happened years ago. It took companies like
Monterey and Magma to push the pace. The EDA industry needs these start-ups
to make sure that the pace of development is kept in line with the growing
complexity of the silicon.

The EDA industry can no longer sit on its behind and collect revenues for
small incremental tool changes. The design community is not being well
served and we are struggling to make full use of the advances in silicon
technology. We need to help the start-ups as much as possible. It is a huge
risk relying on these unproven guys, but unless we push we will never know
what is possible.
