Subject: Static Timing -- Motive, Synopsys PrimeTime, Cadence Pearl

SOMETIMES STATIC MEANS NOT CHANGING: Ever since Synopsys came out with its
PrimeTime static timing analyzer and then later bought out its competition
(Motive) Synopsys has sewn up ownership of that particular EDA niche. Out
of 113 responses to the DAC survey, here was the *only* direct customer
mention of Motive, PrimeTime, or Pearl. (All the other customer quotes were
references to "XYZ tool generates file for PrimeTime", etc.)

   "2.0 Timing Analysis

Didn't delve into this much. Synopsys has done a great job of turning
Primetime into the dominant static timing analysis tool on the market,
largely by buying Motive and killing it. Cadence will be abandoning
Pearl and GCF (general constraint format) - they will be promoting the
static timing analyzer within their synthesis tool. The problem is
that it was missing a lot of capabilities (like modelling interconnect
delays) that Pearl has. They are currently adding in all those
capabilities. There is no end of life plan yet for Pearl, so it will
    be around for a while."
