Hi, John,
You question just came at the right time. We have an internal edict to try
to cut CAD costs wherever we can.
My group is in discussion about buying RTDA FlowTracer and NetworkComputer,
but some of our cynical engineers think it's a waste of money because we
can do much of the same with "make" files and open source Boinc GRID or
Grid Engine (SGE).
- Have any DeepChip readers used open source or free tools to do
the same functionality FlowTracer and NetworkComputer does?
Are there tangilble benefits to paying $$$ for these two Runtime
tools? Did they save your group measurable time/money?
- What experiences have you had using RTDA SW? What's the install
like? How buggy were their tools? What was the support like
after the install?
- FlowTracer claims to speed up "make" builds by 10x-20x. Have
you found this to be true? What benefits did your see using FT?
Any bad experiences with FT?
- What are the techinal differences between NetworkComputer and
Grid Engine (SGE) or Boinc? Is it worth buying?
I wish to apologise for the financial obsession in these questions. The
cynical engineers in our group think it is just a lot of money to put a
fancy user GUI on SW that we can get for free. They even vetoed us looking
at LicenseMonitor because there are too many free tools that do it already.
They're extremely skeptical and cheap.
Google searches on RTDA tools only found "success stories" on their company
web site and paid blogger "reviews" we don't trust.
The latest DeepChip user review of any RunTime tool was from DAC 2003.
What we'd like is some *current* *real* Runtime user input on FlowTracer
and/or NetworkComputer to see if they're worth evaluating.
