QUESTIONS FOR DEAN DRAKO
Why do these rich guys keep coming back to EDA? Have they really
got nothing better to do?
Shouldn't they be out on on their yachts, driving their Lambo's and
talking about how you can't get a decent bottle of wine for less
than $100 these days ?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
For at least Joe Costello, Dean, and Jim.
You guys have more money than most mere mortals. Why do you keep
doing EDA stuff?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
For Drako and Costello.
There are all kinds of lamenting about the EDA industry -- often
execs and sales people or other people close to the financial
realities of EDA companies) lamenting that they would like to
leave EDA forever.
What gives? Why are you two coming back to EDA?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
IC Manage talks a lot about IP reuse. Why? What makes them any
different from Dassault, Cliosoft, Methodics, etc.? Also what
makes them different from open source rev control?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Dean -
Why did you write your IP Reuse 2.0 manifesto on DeepChip that
concluded with all the best practices you outlined could be
done with ANY DM system?
Were you smoking something that day?
Isn't the punch line to any CEO's comments supposed to be a
sales pitch for his company's products?
Did you not get this memo from marketing?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Are EDA companies afraid of internal IP reuse because it will hurt
their future sales of design tools -- e.g. their customers won't
need to purchase as many design and verification licenses if they
reuse their content?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Dean -
You're promoting IP reuse. Now that Cadence and Synopsys sell IP,
will they be inclined to hinder internal IP reuse?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
To Dean:
After your big Barracuda Networks win, why don't you cherry pick
the best start-ups to create Deanotronics -- "big 4" EDA company?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
To Dean and Joe Costello:
You have both had businesses in and out of EDA for at least 15 years.
Is it a completely different ballgame, and why or why not?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Dean, after 10 years of running 2 companies, how long will you last
running only one IC Manage?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
For Dean:
What do you think has to happen for companies to actually build a
system for both design and verification reuse?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Aart said it takes 3x longer to reuse IP than to just develop the
code. Does Dean have a response to that claim?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
For Dean: why are IC design groups so slow to adopt the IP reuse
best practices from the software industry?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
We have 3 design systems, and 10 years of legacy design files.
Can your system handle this?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Dean for checklist driven design, how do you balance giving design
and verification engineers freedom to do their jobs against trying
to measure and control through checklists?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Why haven't any of the big 3 EDA vendors ever gone into design
management?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
How does IC Manage Views differ from what ClearCase Dynamic Views?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
Does IC Manage plan to get acquired by an EDA company or an
enterprise software company?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
I hear IC Manage is finally displacing Dassault DesignSync. Why
isn't Dassault fighting harder to keep its share?
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
