Q3: What can I put in a banner ad link?

A: Your banner ads can link to whitepapers, job listings, video links, Press Releases, articles, etc.

Q4: What are the basic banner ad sizes, etc.?

A: There are 4 banner ad sizes on DeepChip:

- The 728 pixels wide by 90 pixels tall LEADERBOARD is at the top and bottom of many pages. It's a GIF under 100K.

- The 268 pixels wide by 224 pixels tall BOOMBOX is at the right of the page. It's a GIF under 100K.

- The 160 pixels wide by 90 pixels tall SMURF is at the right and bottoms of many pages. It's a GIF under 40K.

- The 120 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall SKYSCRAPER is at the right of many pages. It's a GIF under 100K.

Each banner ad is a GIF file. It can be an animated GIF, but animation not required. If it's animated it must only loop 3 times and stop all animation after 20 seconds. Be very aware that with many browsers the last frame of animation is what remains on the page. NO YOU MAY NOT USE FLASH.

To advertize on DeepChip you must provide a LEADERBOARD, a BOOMBOX, a SMURF, and a SKYSCRAPER.

Q5: Are there any other banner ad packages I should be aware of?

A: Three weeks before DAC and during DAC week itself, ALL DeepChip banner ads are sold in SPLASHES and HALF SPLASHES. A SPLASH is where an advertizer buys ALL the ads on DeepChip for a few days. A HALF SPLASH is where an advertizer buys EVERY OTHER ad on DeepChip for a few days. (The idea is to get the world's attention on some big thing.)

Depending on interest, SPLASHES and/or HALF SPLASHES *might* be sold for a *few* days use prior to some of the other EDA big events like DATE, SNUG, MUSIC, U2U, CDNlive, DVcon, DesignCon.

Q6: Can I "rent" the DeepChip.com mailing list?

A: Nope.

Q7: Can I pay Cooley to cover or endorse our specific EDA tools?

A: Nope. Cooley doesn't do paid endorsements of ANY EDA TOOLS whatsoever. Period. Why? Because DeepChip is about USERS discussing and critiquing EDA TOOLS.

What he will very rarely do is be paid to COVER NON-tool-endorsing EDA PROMOTIONS like EDA book design contests, EDA-related videos, EDA related online games, EDA freebies one should go for, etc. -- anything "fun" that's EDA related that Cooley personally likes and that's NOT an endorsement of ANY SPECIFIC COMPANY'S SPECIFIC EDA TOOLS whatsoever.

Q8: Can I pay Cooley to publish favorable coverage of our tools and/or to suppress bad coverage of our tools?

A: Nope. DeepChip.com is an open USER discussion of EDA tools. What comes into that discussion is what the hands-on EDA users are saying currently about specific EDA tools. Buying advertising on DeepChip will neither promote nor hinder specific EDA user comments from appearing nor not appearing on DeepChip. If a bona fide hands-on EDA user letter comes in giving a legitimate opinion/gripe/bug/workaround about an EDA tool, it will be published in DeepChip -- regardless of who is or is not advertising on DeepChip.

Q9: How can I get Cooley to cover our EDA tools? Does it cost anything?

A: It costs nothing. It's completely free. Just have your direct hands-on tool users email John Cooley at with a detailed, no-BS review of your specific tools -- not a happy, happy, joy, joy customer "success" story -- but a REAL hands-on review with hard data that details the warts plus the good parts about their experiences with your tool.

Q10: How much are the web or hard copy reprint rights for any DeepChip content?

A: If you wish to purchase the non-exclusive right to reprint in hard copy or place on your web site any content found on DeepChip.com, it'll cost between $3,000 to $5,000 depending on how much material you wish to use. John Cooley is the sole owner of ALL the rights to ALL content that's published on DeepChip.com.
