Subject: IC Manage, Cliosoft

INFRASTRUCTURE: OK, so it's not super sexy, but you still have to do data
management. What suprizes me is there are engineers who actually get
excited about this stuff. Seems like IC Manage is ahead for now. Yawn.

"What were the 1 or 2 or 3 INTERESTING specific tools that you
saw at DAC this year? WHY where they interesting to you?
(If any were under NDA say it and I'll keep you anon on them.)"

         ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

IC Manage. IC Manage appears to have configuration management down.
This tool does it without requiring designers to script up all the
  boring tedious details.

With their concept of "Library Management", rather than simply file
versioning, and GUI implementation for configuration visualization
and manipulation, this tool appears to reduce the demands typically
  required of designers.

IC Manage is a high-end design management environment well-suited for
design. From its Cadence database integration, it supports both the
front-end and backend flow as well as mixed-signal designs.  I would
like to see if this support will be extended to their Open Access db.

The client-server architecture isolates the database from the users
through transactions which ensures the integrity and coherency of the
database. This architecture is well suited for large design teams
distributed geographically and in different time zones.

This however comes at higher IT costs in the form of dedicated hardware
resources for the server and database storage. Also it requires more
sophisticated and dedicated IT management resources. Therefore, for
smaller design teams, co-located on the same (local) network and w/o
dedicated IT support, IC Manage may be an overkill.

IC Manage Project Manager (ICMPM) is an excellent tool that helps manage
our IC projects from start to tapeout to ECOs. It works seamlessly with
Perforce to manage different design teams/flows, design libs, Perforce
clients, and user privileges within a project. Using IC Manage has
  streamlined our projects.

Cliosoft Universal DM adaptor. It worked as advertised at a reasonable
price. I evaluated for our company and bought it. Very responsive tech
  support. Well worth the price.
