Subject: Throwing Stones at four Sacred Cash Cows
PERFECT STORM -- If you're read this Census so far, you've found that in EDA
terms I've run into a "perfect storm", in this case, where I've managed to
simultaneously piss off Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor, and Magma. (How often
does that happen???)
Cadence is furious because this data shows First Encounter slipping.
Synopsys is furious because this data shows Design Compiler slipping.
Mentor is furious because this data shows Calibre slipping.
Magma is furious because this data shows Magma's still small in P&R.
People get really pissed when you attack their sacred cash cows!
And all four are also furious that this data also shows P&R sales now
having very low turnover -- because individually they're counting on
stealing market share from each other to keep Wall Street happy!
I have no idea why my data shows all this news. I've been doing these
surveys for years and historically they've been uncannily accurate.
Also, what's amazing is that many of the histograms of the multichoice data
are virtually indentical. Look at the data concerning user's views on
Synopsys local support, SolvNET, their central support, their sales force,
and their user group -- that data hasn't changed in 2 years! -- only this
troulbesome tool use mix data has changed over that time.
What's worst is that Gary Smith is also seeing the same trends I'm seeing!
Why that's worst is I publish my results. Gary only reveals his
detailed data to a select group of paying customers. My data's public!
Never before have the marketing departments of *each* of the Big Four been
simultaneously enraged at me. Just what I need; more stress in my life.
